Post-Deadline Diary

To the readers who were waiting around for last week’s newsletter, I apologize for not getting to it. This is legitimately so much harder than I could’ve ever expected. I was just struggling to come up with ideas last week and didn’t want to force it. 

I’d rather this newsletter have a quality-over-quantity type vibe.  

But I was also just very busy, as this past week brought some new endeavors. You might have seen — well, heard — but I made my NHL voice-over debut for a cool project about players' stick flex that the league spearheaded. 

It was special to have my voice featured alongside some NHL superstars in this fun video. But even more surreal was hearing the video played inside Madison Square Garden on the jumbotron before the Rangers vs. Blues game on Saturday.

As cool as these experiences were, the highlight of my week was appearing on Spittin Chiclets’ Game Notes podcast as a special pre-trade deadline guest. Before listening to Spittin’ Chiclets for the first time in 2017, I didn’t even know what podcasts were, so those guys are legends to me.

I’m not sure I’ve ever been as nervous to talk hockey as I was leading up to Friday’s show, but over the past year, I’ve actually become pretty friendly with the crew (G, Murls, Army, Whit, Biz & RA). Once I was on with them, I felt like I was just shooting the shit with my boys. Even though they mocked my Rangers fandom. 

Still, I was soaked in sweat by the time I hopped off. The nerves never go away when you’re doing a live show.

This week has been one that I’ve looked forward to for a long time. While I haven’t skied since I was about seven years old, I’m heading to Jackson Hole, Wyoming for the first time. Instead of skiing, I’ll be playing in some sort of men’s league hockey game with some fans. 

It’s a pretty wild concept and I’ve got no clue what to expect, but I’m fired up for this experience. My good friends Dan and Chris Powers — who host the Empty Netters podcast —  invited me, and I think they’re doing a film series on the weekend, so I should have some unique content from the trip to share with you all.

No life lessons or anything from me this week. I’m just enjoying Rempe-mania like the rest of you these days.
